The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) has recently announced the evaluation results of its Major Programs for 2024. The Major Program titled “Statistical Management Theory of Large-Scale Business Scenarios”, led by Prof. Jinyuan Chang from the Joint Laboratory of Data Science and Business Intelligence at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE), has been officially approved. The project is a joint effort with Prof. Weidong Liu of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Researcher Xinyu Zhang from the Institute of Mathematics and System Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Gang Kou of SWUFE, and Prof. Hansheng Wang of Peking University.
This marks the first time that SWUFE has been approved as the leading institution for a Major Program of the NSFC—an important milestone in the university’s research development.
The project focuses on addressing the challenges posed by complex business scenarios and massive business data in the context of the digital economy. It aims to develop new theories in data science, statistical computation and optimization, predictive modeling, and simulation-based decision-making. The goal is to construct a comprehensive statistical management framework for large-scale business environments, offering theoretical and methodological foundations for a new paradigm of data-driven management research, and providing effective solutions to critical problems in large-scale business operations.
The NSFC Major Programs are designed to address key scientific questions at the forefront of global research, while responding to the strategic needs of national economic development, societal advancement, technological innovation, and national security. These programs emphasize forward-looking planning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and comprehensive research approaches. They aim to enhance China’s capabilities in original innovation and fundamental research leadership.
