Professor Jinyuan Chang was awarded the First Prize of the 19th Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation Higher Education Youth Science Award

Recently, a ceremony to present the 19th Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation (FYTEF) Higher Education Youth Science Award and Education and Teaching Award was held in Nanjing, Jiangsu. According to the decision made by the expert review organized by the Ministry of Education and the joint meeting of the Foundation’s Board of Directors and Advisory Committee, a total of 10 teachers nationwide were awarded the First Prize of Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation Higher Education Youth Science Award and Education and Teaching Award (5 in each category). Professor Jinyuan Chang was awarded the First Prize of the Youth Science Award.

Jinyuan Chang is a distinguished professor and doctoral supervisor at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics. He is a recipient of several national and provincial talent programs and enjoys the State Council Special Government Allowance. He has been deeply engaged in the frontier field of “large-scale complex data analysis” in statistics, producing a series of original contributions. He has published 24 papers in top international academic journals, including Annals of Statistics, Biometrika, Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B, Journal of Business & Economic Statistics, and Journal of Econometrics. He has led 18 major projects, including the Major Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars of China and the Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation Higher Education Young Teacher Fund. He currently serves (or has served) as Associate Editor for Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of Business & Economic Statistics, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B, and the prestigious statistical journal Statistica Sinica, as well as the field editor for Journal of Management Science in China, a leading Chinese journal in management science.

The Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation was established in 1986, with the aim of promoting the development of education and cultivation of talents, and awarding young lecturers who have made outstanding achievements in teaching and research.  The Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation awards have become one of the most highly regarded prizes in China’s higher education sector, and have been an important honour and boost for many young teachers at the start of their teaching and research careers. Since the 18th Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation award, it has set the Higher Education Youth Science Award and Education and Teaching Award, taking into account both teaching and research.  The Youth Science Award aims to recognize young university faculty members under the age of 40 who have been engaged in frontline scientific research, made outstanding achievements in national economic development, social progress, and technological innovation, and have achieved significant results. The Education Teaching Award aims to honor university faculty members under the age of 55 who have been dedicated to frontline undergraduate teaching, made important innovations in educational philosophy and teaching methods, achieved outstanding teaching results and educational quality, and made significant contributions to student development.
